Advocating for Education Reform in Mead, Washington
Mead Vision is a non-profit group of parents and citizens who care about children, their schools, and the quality of the education offered to them. We strongly believe that parents, not politicians or unions, are the primary stakeholders in maintaining the quality of our public schools.
Our Responsibility
Constitutional government, philosophy, religion and public education all stand or fall together.
American constitutionalism is inseparable from its moral realism and its natural theology.
We call upon our schools to reflect this fundamental reality.
- Martin Luther King Jr. 1963
Our Prayer
Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence upon You, and we beg Your blessings upon our students, our parents, our teachers, and our country.
- NY State Public School Prayer, 1962
Welcome to Mead Vision

Bestselling author, speaker, and pastor John Maxwell once said, “Discontent with the status quo is a great catalyst for vision."
And so it was for a group of parents and citizens in the fall of 2022. The Mead School Board had just voted against proposals that would have shielded our students from the depredations of Critical Race Theory and Gender Theory in our schools. However, long before that, many of us were already alarmed at the drift away from academic excellence toward the inculcation of group think.
As a result, we came together with a shared vision to restore to our schools those qualities that foster achievement, independence, and character formation. We are determined to remove the false ideologies that stand in the way.
While our vision for righting the ship, so to speak, of our local schools is important, it is only the beginning. The pages on this website are meant to inform, exhort, and persuade. Above all, it is an exposition of the principles that guide our strategy and our mission.
And so we say to parents who want something better for their children, to the community members who expect a higher return on their investment, and to the teachers and administrators who have quietly despaired over the politicization of their profession, welcome to Mead Vision.
Doug Turner is the Executive Director of Mead Vision.
How Mead Vision Began
In August and September of 2022, the Mead School Board deliberated on two proposed policies. The first would have blocked the inclusion of Critical Race Theory (CRT) in our classrooms. The second would have prohibited books and materials that promote “gender fluidity” or more accurately, queer and trans theory from our Elementary School libraries.
Despite majority support from the community in favor of these proposals, the Mead School Board rejected both. Chad Burchard, Bob Olson, and Denny Denholm all voted against the best interests of our children and families.
Within days of the vote, we circulated an open letter to the Board with our first policy proposal for Curriculum Transparency and Parental Involvement in our Elementary School Libraries.
Soon after that, we sent an open letter to area churches asking for their help.
Within weeks, we sent out another call to action that highlighted the chasm between the district’s per-student expenditures and the disappointing academic results.
Shortly thereafter we had raised enough money for this platform—a place to articulate an alternative vision and point the way toward real education excellence.
We are grassroots.
We are motivated.
We hope you’ll join us.
